Surprise! Surprise! The Media has discovered Ms Sheehan down at Crawford. Well, what do you know! They have to report the news, don’t they, even if it is embarrassing to the President. Ms Sheehan, of course is overwhelmed with the Media interest and is almost, though not quite, lost for words. Yesterday, she revealed that she has something to say about Israel, as well as the death of her son in Iraq.
Top news for the Media today, has been the episode with a local redneck who used his pick-up to flatten the little white crosses she had erected to mark the deaths of soldiers. This provided an opportunity for the “broken-hearted mother” to make a speech for the reporters-in-waiting. What a gutsy lady she is and isn’t it amazing how she and the Media have found each other.
Not widely reported, though one would have thought quite relevant and newsworthy, are some other developments today. Cindy’s husband has just filed for divorce and there will be some acrimony over the dead son’s estate. Also, it seems that her youngest son has issued a plea for his mother to return home. The rest of her family have again re-iterated their non-support of her actions and views. They should save their collective breath, as the Media will not be interested in what they have to say unless they are even more opposed to the President and the war than Cindy.
Expect this “broken-hearted mother” (her own description) to occupy front page for many more days to come, as the Media carries out its sacred task of reporting the “news”.
Mr Radical comments:
I see that the story has crossed the Atlantic this morning to surface in the mainstream media over here in the UK. There will be more coverage to follow, no doubt.
The actions of the pick-up driver may appear a little disrespectful. But if I was the parent of a soldier whose name has been put on a white cross, to be used by this women for her own political ends, I might be pretty mad too. It doesn’t take much searching on the internet to discover an example, where a name has been used against the wishes of the parents, such as Texan local, Marine Matthew Matula.
This is what another member of the Sheehan family has to say about her: “We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son’s good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.”1
How often will that get repeated in the mainstream media?
