September in the Rain Review: George Shearing

George Shearing and his Quintet recorded “September in the Rain” at least twice and both versions were sublime. It’s from the Capitol Years, and is a live performance. Superb bass and drums drive the beat almost fiercely and Shearing throws in a couple of piano choruses or both linear bebop style and chordal improvisation. What a player and he was British!
