Clifford’s Axe Review: Clifford Brown

The great jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown playing ‘Clifford’s Axe’. This was poorly recorded at a live concert in California. This is really an improvisation on the chords of Gershwin’s “The Man I Love” and Brown creates an endless stream of little melodies. Max Roach on drums, George Bletzel on bass, and the outstanding pianist Carl Perkins gave first-class backing. Unfortunately both Brown and Perkins had very short lives.
